From Classical……………………………………………..to Rock!

Biography

Tommy Pertis is a transplant to the Treasure Coast originally from Budapest, Hungary.  He was Professor of Guitar at the University of Montana School of Music for eight years after finishing his M.M. in Guitar Performance there. Aside from teaching classical guitar, Tommy also taught Digital Audio recording classes and the UM Guitar Ensemble, a small orchestra of up to a dozen guitars. As an educator, Tommy believes that every student can benefit from the joy and the discipline that learning music can bring to their lives.

He also loves to teach the foundations of music theory and improvisation needed to play modern jazz and blues styles. Although rooted in classical guitar, Tommy is equally at home performing jazz and rock styles, often spending summers touring with several rock bands.

As an active composer, Tommy has written music for theater, including an original score for a production of Shakespeare's Richard III, and several pieces for contemporary dance companies.

When he's not juggling musical projects, Tommy is likely exploring the beautiful Treasure Coast on his bicycle. "
